TELC B1 Exam Frankfurt — What You Need to Know

Planning to take the TELC B1 exam in Frankfurt? This guide covers everything you need to know about the exam format, preparation tips, and how to register.

What is the TELC B1 Exam?

The TELC B1 exam is a recognised German language certificate at B1 level on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). It is widely required for naturalisation applications, residence permits, and employment purposes. The certificate is accepted by authorities, employers, and educational institutions across Germany.

Exam Structure

The exam consists of two parts. The written section covers reading, listening, language elements, and writing, and takes up the entire morning. After a break, the oral exam follows, lasting approximately 15 minutes and consisting of three tasks. There is no preparation time before the oral exam begins.

Where does the exam take place?

Preparation tips

Practice all four skills regularly — reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Use official TELC practice materials and simulate the exam under real time conditions. Pay particular attention to the time limits as many candidates lose marks simply by running out of time.
